Blackburn Media Inc. has an exciting entry-level opportunity for a Junior Broadcast Engineer serving the Windsor-Essex/Chatham-Kent region. Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Support: Assist in the repair and maintenance of AM/FM Media transmitters, antenna systems, audio consoles, and studio broadcast equipment.
  • Network Assistance: Support the maintenance of the Wheatstone AoIP audio distribution system and general IT infrastructure (servers, workstations, and local networks).
  • System Documentation: Help design, install, and create detailed documentation for new computer systems and studio hardware.
  • Field Work: Travel to remote transmitter sites across Essex County for routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to assist with emergency technical repairs (24-hour response).
  • Collaboration: Work across our Windsor and Leamington offices, supporting both the engineering team and on-air staff.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Broadcast Technology, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 0–2 years of experience; we are willing to train a candidate with the right foundational skills and a “can-do” attitude.
  • Technical Aptitude: Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and networking in a Windows environment.
  • Eagerness to Learn: A strong interest in FM/AM transmission, RF systems, and AoIP technology (Wheatnet-IP).
  • Soft Skills: Excellent organizational skills and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Outdoor Capability: Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions at transmitter sites.
  • Mobility: Must possess a valid Class G license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Availability: Flexibility to work varied hours and participate in an on-call rotation.

Bonus Assets:

  • Familiarity with WideOrbit, KLZ Newsroom, or SDS software.
  • Experience with basic wiring, soldering, or hobbyist electronics.
  • Knowledge of VLANs, firewalls, or wireless networking.
