Junior Broadcast Engineer (Windsor & Chatham-Kent, Ontario)

Blackburn Media Inc. has an exciting entry-level opportunity for a Junior Broadcast Engineer serving the Windsor-Essex/Chatham-Kent region. Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Support: Assist in the repair and maintenance of AM/FM Media transmitters, antenna systems, audio consoles, and studio broadcast equipment.
  • Network Assistance: Support the maintenance of the Wheatstone AoIP audio distribution system and general IT infrastructure (servers, workstations, and local networks).
  • System Documentation: Help design, install, and create detailed documentation for new computer systems and studio hardware.
  • Field Work: Travel to remote transmitter sites across Essex County for routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to assist with emergency technical repairs (24-hour response).
  • Collaboration: Work across our Windsor and Leamington offices, supporting both the engineering team and on-air staff.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Broadcast Technology, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 0–2 years of experience; we are willing to train a candidate with the right foundational skills and a “can-do” attitude.
  • Technical Aptitude: Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and networking in a Windows environment.
  • Eagerness to Learn: A strong interest in FM/AM transmission, RF systems, and AoIP technology (Wheatnet-IP).
  • Soft Skills: Excellent organizational skills and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Outdoor Capability: Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions at transmitter sites.
  • Mobility: Must possess a valid Class G license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Availability: Flexibility to work varied hours and participate in an on-call rotation.

Bonus Assets:

  • Familiarity with WideOrbit, KLZ Newsroom, or SDS software.
  • Experience with basic wiring, soldering, or hobbyist electronics.
  • Knowledge of VLANs, firewalls, or wireless networking.

Creative Writer (Windsor, Ontario)

Blackburn Media Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Creative Writer to join our team in Windsor,
Ontario. This is an 18-month contract covering maternity leave.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Sales and Production to create compelling, effective commercials for our clients accurately and on time
  • Work closely with clients to meet and exceed their expectations regarding their creative, while maintaining and working with confidential information
  • Write radio commercial scripts, promo scripts, and video scripts
  • Schedule commercial play using SDS and Wide Orbit
  • Represent Blackburn Media professionally at occasional station or client-related events
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Creative Manager

Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Writing or Radio Broadcasting from an accredited post-secondary institution preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of Advertising Standards and Regulations
  • Prior experience with SDS, Wide Orbit, Adobe Audition, and production skills are considered assets
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail oriented with strong listening skills
  • Positive, team focused attitude

Digital Content Creator – Blackburn Media

Are you a storyteller who lives for the “scroll-stop”? Blackburn Media is looking for a creative powerhouse to join us in the brand-new position of Digital Content Creator, focused exclusively on driving engagement across our radio properties.

In this role, you won’t just be making posts; you’ll be building the visual and narrative identity of our station formats. From high-energy TikToks to deep-dive articles and sleek graphic design, you will bridge the gap between our brand and our audience, ensuring our community is educated, entertained, and always coming back for more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Willingness to be on camera & act as the online face of specific formats’ social media platforms
  • Execute end-to-end creation of digital assets for social channels – including short-form video, branded social graphics, and video podcasts
  • Oversee channel management and community engagement, ensuring brand consistency across key platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok)
  • Monitor performance metrics such as reach, impressions, and engagement to evaluate content impact and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Stay updated on social trends and platform algorithms to maintain brand relevance.
  • Analyze performance KPIs to pivot strategies, leveraging current industry trends and algorithm shifts to maintain brand dominance.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Professional experience with editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or CapCut) and content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
  • Strong video editing, graphic design, and photography skills with the ability to create engaging narratives.
  • 2–4 years’ experience in digital marketing or content creation, backed by a strong portfolio.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and excited to take ownership of projects from concept to completion.
  • A degree in marketing, communications, media, or a related field is preferred.
  • Valid G Driver’s License required (some driving may be necessary).
