Morning Show Host – CKNX AM920 (Wingham, ON)

For almost 100 years CKNX has been part of the daily fabric of Midwestern Ontario.  Serving an area with a population of about 300 000 people living and working across parts of Bruce, Grey, Huron, Perth and Wellington Counties.

CKNX has been known as “Ther Voice of Community Service”, “The Ontario Farm Station” and “Hometown Radio”.  Today we are the home of “Real Country Music” with a focus on local news, farm news, weather and community sports.  We are looking for the right person to join us and help us forge the next century of service as we make the transition to FM. 

Due to the upcoming retirement of our Morning Host, Buzz Reynolds, (after 10 years of service to Blackburn and 45 years to the Radio industry) we present this INCREDIBLY RARE OPPORTUNITY to helm the morning show of one of Canada’s heritage radio stations – CKNX AM920.  Created by W.T. “Doc” Cruickshank in 1926, owned and operated by Blackburn Media since 1971!

Job Overview:

The morning show talent sets the stage for the rest of the day on our radio station, providing and executing compelling content to engage and entertain and expand our morning audience. They are expected to be great community representatives and ambassadors on behalf of the company.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Produce and compile content for a daily, live morning show (Mon – Fri, 5:30am – 10am)
  • Interact with listeners through social media, text, website, and email.
  • Generate additional social media content (audio, written, video) to either compliment on-air content or as new and separate digital content
  • Conduct interviews (celebrity, client, local) for use as website content, a portion of which may also be used on the morning show
  • Voice commercial content with station producer as required daily
  • Meet the needs of executing remote broadcasts (for sales) as required, both within and outside of normal hours of work
  • Execute promotional appearances on behalf of the radio station
  • Voice track and other related duties as assigned by the Program Manager

Qualifications:

  • Ability to tell a great story, engage on–air and in person, and never be boring.
  • Great hallway presence, building positive relationships with co-workers.
  • At least three years of experience in a radio broadcast environment
  • Familiarity, if not expertise, in the computer programs required to execute the job (like iMediatouch, WideOrbit, Adobe Audition, WordPress, common social media platforms)
  • Valid G Driver’s Licence and clean driving record

you interested in a mix of reporting and newscasting?

Blackburn Media Inc. is looking for an energetic journalist to work in our newsroom at our radio
stations in Chatham, Ontario.

Your duties will include, but not be limited to: newscasting, field and desk reporting, creating
news content for CKNewsToday.ca, social media engagement.

The successful candidate will possess:
● A diploma or degree in journalism from an accredited post-secondary institution.
● Exceptional news judgement.
● An ability to write clear and concise news stories for on-air and online presentation.
● A strong on-air sound.
● A strong work ethic.
● A critical mind and a willingness to dig for the story.
● A valid driver’s licence.
