Broadcast Engineer – Chatham, Ontario

For nearly 175 years, Blackburn Media Inc. has served as a trusted voice across Southwestern and
Midwestern Ontario. Operating 13 radio stations alongside hyper-local digital news platforms, we connect
regional communities through engaging audio programming, timely local journalism, and targeted business
advertising.

We are seeking a Broadcast Engineer to join our engineering group in Chatham, Ontario. In this role, you
will help maintain, modernize, and shape the technical infrastructure supporting our stations and digital
operations for the next decade of local media coverage.

Key responsibilities:

  • Repair and maintenance of FM radio transmitters, antenna systems, audio consoles, and all
    broadcast related equipment
  • Maintenance of Wheatstone AoIP audio distribution system.
  • Maintenance of computer hardware/software, servers, and network.
  • Design, installation and documentation of new computer systems
  • Flexible schedule and 24 hour on-call response for emergencies
  • Work week will focus on Chatham-Kent properties technical management but can include
    travel to other BMI markets for technical support at times.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as broadcast engineer.
  • Knowledge and experience with FM and AM transmission systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer hardware, software and Local Area Networks.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Experience with Wheatnet AoIP sytems, WideOrbit, KLZ Newsroom, SDS and other radio-
    specific software an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of networking in a windows environment, with IT and Networking
    experience.
  • Experience with Watchguard Firewalls, Ubiquity Wireless, VLANs an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside in all climates
  • MUST have initiative and organizational skills, be eager to learn, be flexible, and willing to help
    co-workers where required.
  • Valid Class G license (clean driver’s abstract will be required)
  • MUST have the ability to work under pressure. Must have excellent troubleshooting skills, and
    ability to multi-task a variety of functions while prioritizing your own workload.

Media Advertising Executive (Windsor-Essex, ON)

Blackburn Media is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Media Sales Representative to join
our Windsor-Essex Sales Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for selling
advertising space across our media platforms including digital, radio broadcast (MIX 96.7
FM CHYR, Big Country 95.9/92.7 CJWF-CJSP, and Cool 100.7/95.1 CKUE), and social
media to help clients grow their businesses. This role combines prospecting, client
relationship management, and strategic selling.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and generate new advertising sales leads through cold calling, networking, and prospecting.
  • Meet and exceed monthly, quarterly & annual sales goals across Blackburn Media
  • Windsor-Essex radio and digital platforms.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients to ensure continued business and client satisfaction.
  • Conduct client meetings to understand marketing needs and present tailored advertising solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling media proposals and presentations.
  • Negotiate contracts and close sales.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (creative, production, graphic design and programming) to execute campaigns effectively.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, radio advertising, and emerging platforms.

  • Goal-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Digital Marketing or related field (preferred).

Junior Broadcast Engineer (Windsor & Chatham-Kent, Ontario)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Support: Assist in the repair and maintenance of AM/FM Media transmitters, antenna systems, audio consoles, and studio broadcast equipment.
  • Network Assistance: Support the maintenance of the Wheatstone AoIP audio distribution system and general IT infrastructure (servers, workstations, and local networks).
  • System Documentation: Help design, install, and create detailed documentation for new computer systems and studio hardware.
  • Field Work: Travel to remote transmitter sites across Essex County for routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to assist with emergency technical repairs (24-hour response).
  • Collaboration: Work across our Windsor and Leamington offices, supporting both the engineering team and on-air staff.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Broadcast Technology, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 0–2 years of experience; we are willing to train a candidate with the right foundational skills and a “can-do” attitude.
  • Technical Aptitude: Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and networking in a Windows environment.
  • Eagerness to Learn: A strong interest in FM/AM transmission, RF systems, and AoIP technology (Wheatnet-IP).
  • Soft Skills: Excellent organizational skills and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Outdoor Capability: Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions at transmitter sites.
  • Mobility: Must possess a valid Class G license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Availability: Flexibility to work varied hours and participate in an on-call rotation.

Bonus Assets:

  • Familiarity with WideOrbit, KLZ Newsroom, or SDS software.
  • Experience with basic wiring, soldering, or hobbyist electronics.
  • Knowledge of VLANs, firewalls, or wireless networking.
